Nonprofit Law / Tax-Exempt Organizations

Our lawyers provide a wide array of legal services designed to help our nonprofit and tax-exempt clients succeed in a complicated legal and regulatory environment. We are involved in all aspects of nonprofit formation and corporate governance, and our lawyers are known for providing advice to nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations on the rules governing their lobbying, advocacy and political campaign activities. We establish and work with 501(c)(3) public charities and foundations, 501(c)(4) social welfare organizations, 501(c)(6) trade associations and chambers of commerce, and Section 527 political committees. We advise on compliance with nonprofit corporation laws, and represent nonprofit organizations on tax status matters before the Internal Revenue Service. We assist with the preparation and filing of applications for tax-exempt status, and our lawyers have successfully reinstated the tax exempt status of multiple charities. We also assist with preparation and filing of required disclosures, including IRS Form 990. We also provide advice and guidance on complying with state laws on charitable solicitation registration and business licenses.
