Personal Experience & Biography

Nick is an experienced advocate and counselor whose practice centers on political law and elections. He represents political parties and organizations, candidates, campaigns, and advocacy groups on political, constitutional, and election matters—and with a proven record of fighting for election integrity and a willingness to take on controversial, high-consequence cases, he is the counsel clients turn to when the stakes are highest. That fighting spirit is grounded in substantial courtroom experience: he has conducted numerous jury and bench trials, briefed and argued appeals in state and federal courts, and served as lead counsel at oral argument before the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

Nick works closely with the Republican National Lawyers Association, having chaired its Wisconsin chapter, and the Republican Party of Wisconsin, where he chaired its Election Reform Task Force. His engagement in Wisconsin election law began as an undergraduate coordinating Election Day attorneys during the 2004 presidential campaign and has continued without interruption—as a volunteer attorney, retained counsel, and frequent election-law seminar speaker.

Alongside his political and election work, Nick maintains a substantial real estate and commercial practice, which is where much of his litigation and advocacy experience was forged. Over more than a decade he handled major eminent domain, property tax, and zoning matters at the administrative, trial, and appellate levels, and built an equally deep transactional practice—negotiating purchase agreements and guiding transactions of all sizes to closing. He continues to advise clients on real estate disputes, transactions, and property tax and eminent domain matters in Wisconsin and beyond.

Nick’s broader background reflects a career close to the practical workings of law, government, and business. He serves as in-house counsel to a developer with a large real estate portfolio, advising on leasing strategy, property management, and related legal and financial matters. Earlier he worked as a tax consultant on international corporate engagements and held government roles, including in the Governor’s Office of Legal Counsel, the state Department of Justice, and the White House Office of Legislative Affairs.

Nick and his wife, Ashley, live in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, with their four children.

Representative Matters:

  • Served on the legal team in Melendez v. Newsom, securing victories against the State of California in federal court, overturning a state law that sought to remove President Trump from California’s primary ballot—litigation that presented significant constitutional questions regarding state authority over federal elections and presidential ballot access.
  • Lead attorney investigator and principal drafter of a high-profile internal investigation into the National School Boards Association’s 2021 letter urging the Biden Administration to treat parents protesting school board policies as domestic terrorists. He led the fact-gathering and authored the investigative report examining the letter’s origins, the coordination behind it, and its implications.
  • Principal drafting attorney on amicus curiae briefs supporting state election reforms, including in United States v. Georgia (defending Georgia’s 2021 reforms) and, more recently, United States v. Wisconsin Elections Commission (addressing the WEC’s failure to maintain voter rolls and its obstruction of the Attorney General’s investigation).
  • Member of the Wisconsin legal teams for the 2020 and 2024 Presidential Elections, handling pre-election compliance, Election Day integrity operations, recounts, and related litigation—coordinating observers and volunteer attorneys and providing legal analysis, evidentiary documentation, and briefing support across concurrent matters.
  • Counsel assisting in the identification, negotiation, and acquisition of more than 2,000 acres in Racine County, Wisconsin, for a major Foxconn campus and related technology development.
  • Counsel for the Milwaukee County Zoo in an eminent domain case securing nearly $13 million settlement from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
