Chalmers Adams Attorneys Represent ALEC in U.S. Supreme Court Amicus Brief

Chalmers Adams attorneys Mark P. Meuser, Dan Backer and Sarah Gilcrest represented the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) in an amicus curiae brief filed with the U.S. Supreme Court in Republican National Committee v. Mi Familia Vota. Meuser served as Counsel of Record.

The case concerns Arizona’s documentary proof-of-citizenship requirements for voter registration and the constitutional authority of state legislatures in the process for appointing presidential electors.

Filed in support of the petitioner, ALEC’s brief examines the original meaning and historical foundations of the Electors Clause of Article II, drawing on the Constitution’s text, the debates of the Constitutional Convention, the Founders’ writings and early historical practice to address the respective authority of state legislatures and Congress in presidential elections.

The filing reflects Chalmers Adams’ experience in complex constitutional, appellate, election law and political law matters.
