Jonathan Marx litigates business, tax, and fraud cases. He takes pride in giving clients candid, realistic advice based on their own goals and risk tolerance.
Jonathan came to Chalmers Adams from the North Carolina Department of Justice, Consumer Protection Division, where he litigated some of the most high-stakes business disputes in the country. He served as one of the lead attorneys for the state plaintiffs in the In re Google Play Store antitrust litigation and the antitrust challenge to NCAA’s restrictions on student-athlete transfers. Both cases directly led to powerful organizations making significant changes that benefitted consumers and student-athletes respectively. Jonathan was also a leader in negotiating the $700 million settlement between 40+ state Attorneys General and Johnson and Johnson over asbestos in its talc products; the settlements with McKinsey & Co. and Publicis Group arising out of the opioid crisis, and the 50-state settlement with Intuit over its misleading sales practices for TurboTax.
Jonathan previously served as a federal prosecutor at the U.S. Department of Justice, where he tried tax and fraud cases all over the southeast. He also practiced at an international law firm, where he handled white collar defense, tax and commercial litigation, and internal investigations into corporate misconduct.
Before practicing law, he served as a law clerk for Judge T.S. Ellis III of the Eastern District of Virginia and Judge Phyllis Kravitch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.
